How the home-improvement calculators work.
Transparent formulas, editable product assumptions, and conservative rounding are the core rules behind this calculator cluster.
1. Geometry first
Area and volume tools use direct geometry: length × width for rectangles, depth converted to feet for volumes, cylinders for post holes, and a pitch multiplier for simple roof projections.
2. Product coverage stays editable
Bundles per roofing square, underlayment roll coverage, paint coverage, flooring-box coverage, concrete bag yield, and similar product values can vary. The calculators expose those inputs instead of pretending one number is universal.
3. Purchasing quantities round up
Whole bags, bundles, rolls, cartons, sheets, and stock pieces round up. A material list that is mathematically exact but impossible to purchase is not useful.
4. Waste is explicit
Where cuts, laps, breakage, pattern, or site variation matter, the allowance is shown as an input rather than hidden inside the formula.
5. Structural design is out of scope
These calculators estimate quantities and user-entered pricing. They do not choose joist spans, footing sizes, post depth, structural reinforcement, roof fastening schedules, R-values, or other code/design decisions.
