Quick answer
Time card quick answer
Answer: A time card total is the sum of each paid shift: clock-out time minus clock-in time minus unpaid breaks. Overnight shifts carry the end time into the next day.
Formula: Paid daily hours = elapsed shift time − unpaid break. Weekly regular and overtime hours are then split at the overtime threshold entered in the calculator.
Example: Five 8-hour paid days plus a 6-hour Saturday equal 46 hours. With a 40-hour threshold, that is 40 regular hours and 6 overtime hours.

How the time card math works
Each day is clock-out minus clock-in minus the unpaid break. If clock-out is earlier than clock-in, the shift is treated as crossing midnight. Daily minutes can optionally be rounded before the week is totaled. Weekly overtime is then split at the threshold you enter; the default is 40 hours with a 1.5× multiplier.
For covered nonexempt U.S. employees, the federal FLSA generally requires at least time-and-a-half after 40 hours in a workweek. State rules and exemptions can differ, so the threshold and multiplier remain editable.

Worked example
Five 8-hour paid days total 40 hours. Add a 6-hour Saturday and the calculator shows 46 total hours: 40 regular and 6 overtime. At $20/hour with a 1.5× multiplier, estimated gross pay is $980.
