Reseller Profit Calculator – Seller Fees, Shipping & ROI
Calculate reseller or seller profit after item cost, percentage fees, fixed fees, shipping and other selling expenses. The result also shows ROI, profit margin, break-even price and a target-ROI buy price.
Seller profit quick answer
Answer: Seller profit is the sale price minus the item cost, marketplace or payment fees, shipping, and other direct selling costs.
Formula: Profit = sale price − item cost − selling fees − shipping − other direct costs. ROI = profit ÷ item cost × 100. Profit margin = profit ÷ sale price × 100.
Example: If an item costs $50, sells for $200, has $26 in fees and $20 in shipping, estimated profit is $104 before taxes and overhead.

Worked example
Buy an item for $50 and sell it for $200 with a 13% fee and $20 seller-paid shipping. Fees are $26, net proceeds before item cost are $154, and estimated profit is $104. That is a 208% ROI on the original $50 cost.
Turn reseller profit into the next decision
A profitable sale is only one checkpoint. Use the same costs to answer the next two questions:
- What is the most I should pay? Use the Maximum Buy Price Calculator to work backward from your required return.
- Should I hold the price or mark it down? Use the Hold vs Markdown Calculator to compare waiting with taking a lower price sooner.
This keeps sale price, fees, shipping and item cost connected instead of treating ROI as an isolated number.
What to do with the result
Use conservative sale prices and realistic fees. A deal that only works at the highest asking price is usually weaker than a deal that still meets your target ROI at a normal sold price.
Frequently asked questions
What is seller profit?
The money remaining after the sale price is reduced by item cost, selling fees, shipping, and other direct expenses.
What is the difference between ROI and profit margin?
ROI compares profit with the amount you invested in the item. Profit margin compares profit with the final sale price.
How do I find my break-even sale price?
The calculator solves for the sale price that covers item cost, fixed costs, shipping, other costs, and percentage fees.
Should I include advertising and packing costs?
Yes if they are direct costs of making that sale.

Reseller profit vs. seller net proceeds
Profit subtracts what you paid for the item. Net proceeds show what remains after selling costs before item cost. If you are deciding whether an item is worth buying to resell, profit and ROI are usually the more useful numbers.
Only want the payout after fees and shipping, before subtracting item cost? Use the Seller Net Proceeds Calculator.
Take this number one step further
Use the result as an input to a decision model that compares the next action rather than stopping at the calculation.
Resale profit, ROI and margin: one sale, three different numbers
Suppose you buy an item for $50 and sell it for $200. An illustrative 13% fee costs $26; seller-paid shipping costs $20. With no other entered expenses, net proceeds are $154, profit is $104, ROI on item cost is 208%, and margin is 52%.
How much can the price fall before you lose money?
With those same costs, break-even is ($50 + $20) ÷ (1 − 0.13) = $80.46, rounded to cents. At a $160 sale price, profit falls to $69.20. The comparison in your result recalculates this using your own numbers.
Enter the fee you actually pay
No marketplace fee is assumed to be current. Check your platform, payment method and item category. If the platform charges fees on buyer-paid shipping or another amount beyond your item price, include those extra fees under fixed fees or other costs without counting them twice.
Account for your time
Profit here is before income tax, ongoing business overhead and your time. Sourcing, cleaning, photography, packing and meeting a buyer all take time. Divide profit by total hours spent to compare the deal with other work.
For a purchase decision, continue to the Maximum Buy Price Calculator. To compare selling now with waiting, use the Hold vs Markdown Calculator.
